Verbos regulares em inglês são a maioria dos verbos da língua, portanto, aprendê-los é importantíssimo para seguir no caminho rumo à fluência. Esses verbos são terminados em –ed quando conjugados no Simple Past. Então vamos ver quais eles são?

Como formar o passado dos verbos regulares
Antes de ver a tabela, vale conhecer as quatro situações mais comuns:
- Regra geral: acrescente -ed. Ex.: work → worked, watch → watched.
- Verbo que já termina em e: acrescente só -d. Ex.: like → liked, decide → decided.
- Verbo que termina em consoante + y: troque o y por -ied. Ex.: study → studied, try → tried. Se antes do y vem uma vogal, só acrescente -ed: play → played, stay → stayed.
- Verbo curto que termina em vogal + consoante: repita a última letra antes do -ed. Ex.: stop → stopped, grab → grabbed. Alguns verbos, como cancel e travel, têm duas grafias: uma americana (canceled, traveled) e uma britânica (cancelled, travelled).
Como pronunciar o -ed
Apesar de a escrita ser sempre -ed, o som muda. Existem três jeitos:
- Som de T: depois de sons como p, k, s, x, ch e sh. Ex.: asked, helped, worked, watched, washed, stopped.
- Som de D: depois de vogais e da maioria das consoantes que “vibram” na garganta. Ex.: cleaned, played, arrived, enjoyed, opened, stayed.
- Som de ID (uma sílaba a mais): quando o verbo termina em t ou d. Ex.: needed, started, decided, ended, invited, waited.

Como usar os verbos regulares no simple past
Na frase afirmativa, basta usar o verbo no passado. Já na negativa e na pergunta, entra o did e o verbo volta para o infinitivo (sem -ed):
Afirmativa: I worked yesterday. – Eu trabalhei ontem.
Negativa: I didn’t work yesterday. – Eu não trabalhei ontem.
Pergunta: Did you work yesterday? – Você trabalhou ontem?
